A Breath of FRESH AIR 09
Posted by Culture Vulture in Events on June 11th, 2009
Well, we’ve mentioned it before but FRESH AIR 09 opens this weekend and we really do love it.
Erudite and graceful, this sculpture-in-the-garden event is exciting and pretty damn English in an ‘excellent sculpture meets afternoon tea amongst the shrubbery’ sort of way.
This event is 5*, ‘must see’ and tell your friends. Runs until July 5th.
Arts, Crafts and Gardens – Making the Links

Visitors to the Cotswolds this year have a one-off opportunity to win a hand-made silver charm bracelet, an extremely special prize. Caroline Richardson, based at Chipping Campden’s historic Guild of Handicraft, is seen here working on a snowdrop flower for the completed bracelet. The prize is open to visitors to four Cotswold gardens until late Summer. See Abbey House Garden, Batsford Arboretum, Mill Dene Garden or Painswick Rococo Garden for details.
Peter Wyton

When we started talking about poetry (see Sleepwalk on the Severn) below, lots of people made contact with suggestions. One of the best suggestions was to feature Peter Wyton, a local legend whose Rogue River poem also captured the nature of the River Severn. Other rivers assault you with violent force, the Severn slips something into your drink.
Check the link above for dates – evenings with Peter Wyton get great reviews and are a great way to meet the locals or do something a little different.

Sleepwalk on the Severn: the book and the performance
Posted by Culture Vulture in Events, Live Music, Theatre on June 1st, 2009
Faber & Faber’s publication of Alice Oswald’s ‘Sleepwalk on the Severn’ adds to the mystery of the River Severn and the Severn Estuary, one of Britain’s most enigmatic places.
To coincide and as part of 2009’s Severn Project, live performances of the poem have been set to voices and music by Stroud-based theatre group Taurus Voice, with music by by Pete Rosser.
An incredible place, the Severn. Britain’s longest river, was named ‘Sabrina’ by the Romans and is home to Britain’s longest tidal wave. Visitors these days head for Gloucester Docks or the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust at Slimbridge to encounter the atmosphere, history or wildlife of the area.
